QWEST WEB HOLE LEAVES CUSTOMER DATA EXPOSEDSource: Security Wire DigestPosted on June 1, 2002 A flaw in Qwest Communications' Web site exposed online customers' records, including credit card information and complete copies of recent long-distance phone bills. The telecommunications giant took its site offline late last week to fix the glitch, which was discovered when customers complained the site no longer checked passwords and allowed anyone to log into private accounts with only a username. Qwest typically requires both a phone number and calling card PIN or username and password to access online billing. The hole reportedly occurred when Qwest added a click-through page with a new service agreement to appear during the login process. Local telephone customers and those who pay bills by mail weren't impacted.
