CANADIAN CONSUMERS WARMING TO E-COMMERCESource: NewsBytes.comPosted on April 24, 2002 Online shopping in Canada is poised for healthy growth over the next few years despite a relatively slow start, according to analysts from the Yankee Group. However, Canadians remain somewhat uneasy about providing credit card information online, and this attitude appears to be hardening among Canadians who still refuse to shop online, Yankee's analysts found. Their report, entitled "A Look at Canadian B-to-C E-Commerce," says that online transactions in Canada will touch 4.8 million households in 2004, from 2.5 million households in 2001, with 2004's transactions projected to represent sales of $11.5 billion Canadian ($7.2 billion U.S.), compared to 2001's $2.6 billion ($1.6 billion U.S.). According to the authors, Canada has trailed the U.S. in business-to-consumer shopping online, in part because Canadian retailers have been slow to match the offerings of their American counterparts.
