CORPORATE PRIVACY MANIFESTOAs submitted to the Association For Internet Marketing And Sales Discussion List Source: E-CommerceALERTPosted on January 26, 2002 Author: Roy Chartier, Web Team Manager, Canada Post Corporation Management efforts must be applied to a process that reflects current attitudes and principles toward trust relationships with customers. This includes: a) Employee understanding and conformance; b) Organizational commitment and compliance; c) Inclusion within IT design criteria and operational procedures securing data privacy. Proper program management involves a Lifecycle Process for privacy. A Privacy Lifecycle can be summarized as a five-step process: 1) Develop privacy principles that meet the business goals of the corporation, the customers expectations and regulatory requirements; 2) Create privacy policy guidelines that apply to all customer access points; 3) Assign responsibility by creating a functional role within the corporation that is empowered to manage the privacy program; 4) Make senior management aware of the implications to privacy and the responsibility that is a result of corporate ebusiness initiatives. 5) Make privacy protection a closed process. Create an enforcement and escalation process to monitor compliance and implement a regularly scheduled gap analysis.
