TOYS'R'US FINED FOR PRIVACY BREACHESSource: ZDNetPosted on January 6, 2002 Toys'R'Us.com, the online arm of toy retailer Toys R Us, has agreed to pay a $50,000 fine to settle allegations by the state of New Jersey that it shared customers' personal information with another firm, state officials said on Thursday. While not admitting to any wrongdoing, the company, based in Fort Lee, New Jersey, also agreed to make its online privacy policy clearer to customers, the officials said. New Jersey authorities began investigating a year ago after learning that toysrus.com of Paramus, New Jersey, had shared customers' private information with CoreMetrics, Inc., a California company hired to track consumers' buying habits on the Web site.
