FLEET WEB SITE FLAW EXPOSES PRIVATE RECORDSSource: Security Wire DigestPosted on December 13, 2001 A security hole exposed almost 600,000 Fleet Credit Card Services transaction records on the Internet last week. The flaw was discovered by a customer checking his account. A Fleet spokesman says about 100 records were viewed before the mycard.fleet.com Web site was taken down for about six hours Friday and the exploit fixed. Log files suggest only the customer and two news organizations he contacted had viewed the records, he added. The customer in San Antonio contacted the media after Fleet officials failed to return his phone calls. While most of the exposed transaction records included address changes or credit card balance transfers, some included Social Security numbers, account numbers and employment data. Fleet Credit Card Services, a division of FleetBoston Financial, uses a third-party Web host that the company declined to identify.
