INTERNET POLL REVEALS PRIVACY AS MOST IMPORTANT INTERNET ISSUE AMONG ONLINE USERSSurvey Indicates 85 Percent Extremely Concerned About Internet PrivacySource: @plan, Inc.Posted on March 9, 2000 Results from the latest @plan Internet Poll(TM) reveal that online privacy concerns are by far and away the single most important issue confronting the industry. The poll shows that over 85 percent of online users regarded the privacy of information transmitted online as the most important issue on the Internet. Survey findings also indicate the following:
The online public also feels that it is up to the Internet industry, rather than the federal government, to address and resolve most of these issues. Poll results revealed that respondents felt that the Internet industry generally could best address Internet issues rather than the federal government. The only two exceptions where online users regarded the federal government as more suited to address and resolve Internet issues are the taxation of products and services purchased over the Internet and access to the Internet in every high school classroom in the country. "The issue of Internet privacy has continued to snowball over the last few months and is front and center with online consumers," said Mark Wright, chairman and CEO of @plan.
