FTC TO BEGIN ONLINE PRIVACY SWEEPSSource: Electronic Retailing AssociationFebruary 10, 2000 The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will be sending a report to Congress this spring on consumer profiling. The Electronic Retailing Association (ERA) has learned that it will conducting random privacy sweeps across the Internet over the next couple weeks to see how posted privacy policies match up with fair information practices. The search is reportedly to be more intense than last year's keyword search and will be looking into quality analysis of how Web sites provide consumers with notice, access, choice and security. The FTC will also monitor how effective industry self-regulation is working.
